Information about becoming a volunteer Puppy Trainer

Volunteer Puppy Trainers are vital to the Paws with Purpose mission.

To be a puppy trainer, you must have a love for dogs and the committment to include the raising of one of these wonderful dogs in your life.ÂPrior puppy/dog training experience is not necessary - PWP provides regular training classes for the dogs - & their trainers - along with a clear educational program; the PWP Training Team will also work individually with you to ensure you have all the information you need.

What's involved?  The families and individuals that serve as puppy trainers provide a means to house, train, and nurture Paws with Purpose Assistance Dogs-In-Training. To help you get started, Paws with Purpose current volunteers and experienced trainers spend a great deal of time providing training and guidance to each family who is interested in becoming a puppy trainer and to find the right fit for each family and puppy.  With continued assistance from the PWP Training Team, the family's goal is to carefully socialize pups and dogs and to reinforce basic and advanced obedience.  Volunteer families must be willing and able to devote time each day to oversee the complete care of the dog including:  feeding, grooming, socialization, and exercise as recommended by PWP Training Team.  Raising these wonderful dogs is a rewarding and memorable experience.  It's not hard to fall in love with these wonderful pups!  The experience and guidance you provide to each of your dogs gives them a greater chance to succeed in their forever home where they will improve the life of someone with a disability.  While it may be difficult to give up a dog, never lose sight of the fact that there is another dog waiting in the wings for your all-important training and guidance.

If you feel that becoming a family is right for you, please complete the Puppy Trainer application. The Puppy Trainer Coordinator will contact you to discuss the next step. Thanks for your interest in the Paws with Purpose program!
